Selecting the correct shade for a single anterior crown or implant crown can be extremely difficult and may require modifying several times by the Dental Technician. After fitting a beautiful crown, it takes the patient to says, ‘that looks great, now can I whiten my teeth!’

This lecture will discuss the importance of treatment planning of a single anterior crown or implant crown, when whitening treatment should be carried out and how to assess the shade and other hints and tips for getting it right!

Aim

To provide an informative session to carry out successful treatment planning and techniques for shade taking for anterior crowns and implant crowns.

  • Identify treatment planning strategies for single tooth crowns, implant crowns and the natural dentition.

  • Summarize appropriate discussions with patients

  • Recognize when tooth whitening treatment and other techniques is appropriate for improving the appearance of single tooth restoration next to natural teeth.

  • Apply shade assessment for different treatments and lighting conditions.

  • Recognize additional devices for improving shade selection

  • Practice shade selection under different lighting conditions and further skills to improve shade taking techniques
